The 10 Best Essential Oils For Hair Growth

My Story

I am a proud mother of 4 boys with 4 very different curl patterns. Like them, I struggled in my younger years to understand how to maintain my hair. It seemed impossible at times. I truly did not understand why it behaved the way it did. My family, being from Central America, also had different curl patterns than I did. My mother was a licensed Cosmetologist plus she had amazing knowledge of tried and true Central American and Caribbean natural treatments for hair and skin. I have tried many oils on myself as well as my kids and have noticed a wide range of results.

The Truth

The truth is there is no one answer to hair growth because every individual's hair growth struggle is different. We all want results right now because the way we look directly relates to the way we feel. Simply, hair growth is a balance of scalp health, hair protection, and diet. These powerful oils will support greater scalp health and provide the ideal environment for hair growth.

As a word of caution never apply essential oils directly to the skin as it may cause irritation. Always dilute essential oils in carrier oils.

The Top Ten Essential Oils Are:

    Rosemary

Improves blood circulation, which benefits the hair follicles since they rely on blood flow to obtain nutrients and oxygen.

    Lavender

Has antimicrobial properties which can help prevent bacterial and fungal infections of the scalp.

    Cedarwood

Antimicrobial and antifungal qualities can aid in preventing scalp infections. Cedarwood also helps to reduce scalp inflammation and itchiness.

    Thyme

Inhibits inflammation and helps to combat dandruff. Thyme also stimulates blood circulation which can facilitate bringing nutrients to the scalp.

    Peppermint

Contains menthol which can reduce inflammation and fight against microbes and fungi. The menthol it contains can also cause blood vessels to widen.  This means that in addition to a scalp that is less irritated, hair follicles may have a better chance at receiving nutrients due to the increased blood flow.

    Tea Tree

Can soothe an irritated scalp and keep the follicles clean due to its anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and anti-fungal properties.

    Lemongrass

May provide relief for itchy, irritated scalps. Helps to control the production of scalp sebum. Too much sebum clogs the pores and inhibits growth

    Ylang-Ylang

While too much sebum can cause buildup, too little sebum can also cause issues. Whether you suffer from an oily scalp or a dry scalp and dry, brittle hair, ylang-ylang can assist with regulating sebum production.

    Clary Sage

Treats dandruff and regulates sebum production. Can aid in soothing irritated scalps.

    Bergamot

Reduces inflammation and provides antimicrobial activity, Bergamot can also help to cleanse the scalp and reduce buildup.
